The Facts about Septic Tank Maintenance & Septic System Care |
|
Why maintain your septic system?
Many homeowners have regular maintenance
performed on their houses-furnace filters must be
changed, gutters cleaned, and exterior trim needs to
be repaired and painted. We know that if we don't take
care of these maintenance chores, we may end up with
bigger and more expensive problems down the road.
This same scenario applies to your septic system.
To make it last, you should maintain it regularly.

|
Are Chemical Additives Effective for Septic Tank Maintenance?
|
|
Using chemical additives or treatments for maintaining your septic system is ineffective and many times
illegal.
Many states and counties have banned or limited the use of septic tank additives. However,
the best source of information on the subject of septic tank maintenance and care using chemicals or additives
comes from the Canadian Governments Regulation 374/81 under part VII of the Environmental
Protection Act. The study shows that not only does septic system maintenance with additives not work, there is a good chance you will harm your system by using them.

CANADA PROHIBITS SEPTIC SYSTEM ADDITIVES - Canadian citations on Septic Tank Additives
|
 |
* 3(f)(iii) Some 1200 products, many containing enzymes, have been placed on the market for use in septic tanks, and extravagant claims have been made for some of them. As far as is known, none has been proved advantageous in properly controlled tests.
* Paragraph 3(f)(i) Chemicals: "The function of a septic tank is not improved by the addition of disinfectants or other chemicals. In general, the additary products which are claimed to "clean" septic tanks contain sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide as the active agent. Such compounds may result in sludge bulking and a large increase in alkalinity, and may interfere with digestion.
The resulting effluent may severely damage the soil structure and cause accelerated clogging, even though some temporary relief may be experienced immediately after application of the product."

The Aero-Stream® Septic System Maintenance & Restoration
Solution |
|
How does Aero-Stream® work?
The Aero-Stream® Remediator™ reverses and maintains biomat permeability to restore and maintain full system function in
a matter of weeks by utilizing a patented natural biochemical
process to convert an anaerobic system to an
aerobic system. The aerobic treatment of wastewater
has been in use for more than 100 years. Nearly every
municipal wastewater treatment plant utilizes aerobic
treatment as one of its primary treatment processes.
This process is robust, fast and efficient at cleaning
wastewater. The aerobic treatment of the wastewater
in your septic tank reduces the strength of the organic
material leaving the tank by some 70%-80%.

Septic System Facts
A new septic system can cost from $5,000 to $15,000 - and this does not include
landscape restoration.
It is not a matter of if your septic system will fail, but when it will fail.
A system can be abused by dumping excess materials into it: paint, thinners,
bleach, anti-bacterial products, and non-organic trash, such as wrappers and cigarette butts.
There are no chemicals or bacterial solutions on the market that have been
proven effective in restoring or maintaining your septic system.
The expected life of a septic system is based on many factors, such as soil conditions, daily
hydraulic loading, and the types of household chemicals used.
